What is Gastric Sleeve Surgery?

March 28th, 2012

Last month, my father was hospitalized due to Gastroenteritis. I actually didn’t know where he acquired that. So, I research more about it, but as I was reading some articles, I have met a lot of terms, complex terms I should say. And that leads me to another question in my mind: “What’s Gastric Sleeve Mexico and Lap Band Mexico?”,

Gastric Sleeve Surgery is also known as Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy. This is a relatively new procedure that leads to weight loss by restricting the food intake. Sleeve Gastrectomy involves the removal of the left side of the stomach. If you would in the illustration below, this results in a banana, or a sleeve shaped stomach.

This operation does not involve any reconnecting of the intestines, or the implantation of an artificial device in the abdomen.

In many cases, the Gastric sleeve surgery is followed by a second stage surgical procedure that is performed almost a year after the first procedure. In this procedure, the stomach is converted into a gastric bypass or duodenal switch. This leads to more weight loss and a more permanent result.

It is believed that the cost of Gastric Sleeve in Mexico is significantly lower than the United States.

In Mexico, Gastric Sleeve surgery is a viable option for those who are somehow bothered by obesity but cannot afford to avail the healthcare options in their home countries. Maybe due to the high cost of medical care.

Speaking of obesity, there is another procedure that is recommended for patients with the BMI that ranges between 35 and 40 with co-morbidities which tend to improve with weight loss like diabetes and osteoarthritis. This is called the Lap Band. To know more about the Lap Band, kindly visit their site, Mexico Health.

Clothing Shopping Tips For Large Women

March 19th, 2012

Just because you are a larger woman does not mean that you have to wear boring, ultra-drab clothing that’s commonly available. The average dress size is going up and there’s increasing number of women who want to look fashionable and chic without looking frumpy. Fortunately, designers are listening to consumers and are creating attractive, plus-size clothes for women.
Still, it’s difficult to find larger clothing in most malls in the country- or they are very limited. What’s more daunting is choosing suitable styles that will disguise flaws (we all have them) and help us look slimmer.
The following tips will help you choose the most flattering shapes when out for plus size clothes:

MAKE SURE IT FITS
One of the main problems women have is wearing clothing that doesn’t fit properly. Too loose and it adds bulk; too tight and bulges are showing. Make sure you use the fitting room and check your back for bulges. Know the store’s return policy before buying. Smart manufacturers pre-shrink their garments so look for this on the tags.

WEAR UPDATED UNDERGARMENTS
Undergarments are the “foundation” on which we wear our clothing. Weight fluctuates and it may be necessary to shop frequently or keep two sizes on hand. Underwear that gives proper support and minimizes budges will make you look ten times better.

CHECK THE LENGTH
Longer blouses and shirts are more flattering, plus they are very much in style right now. In style or not, they will help elongate and cover your midsection. For those that fall well below the hips, define your waist with a belt, sash, or scarf.

AVOID PATTERNS
Of course, not all patterns are evil, but many of them are “too busy”, and will make you appear larger- small patterns in particular. Favorite designs aside, stick with monochrome or two colors.

CHOOSE HANDBAGS WISELY
Depending on what you need to carry, try to choose a medium to large handbag or tote. Smaller burses have a tendency to look puny on a large woman and, thus, make her appear larger than she really is. Find something that will accommodate what you need to carry and have space to spare.

SHOP ONLINE
The internet is a vast resource for plus-size clothing. The trick is finding a store you are comfortable with. Check stores and familiarize yourself with their styles and size charts. Not all clothing is created equal and sizes vary by the brand. Always measure yourself first and again, check return policies.

Beauty Tips Using Inexpensive Oils

March 9th, 2012

For enhancing your good looks, there is nothing like ordinary oil. Here are a few beauty tips- using inexpensive oils- that will help you achieve and maintain a flawless complexion.

1. Mix olive oil with equal quantity of vinegar and apply the mixture an hour before taking a bath to neutralize too deep a tan.

2. For treating a dry skin, soak a piece of muslin cloth in warm olive oil and cover your face with it after making holes for the eyes and nose. Let it stay for half an hour and then wipe the face with a soft cloth. Next morning, wash face with lukewarm water and splash on cold water.

3. An anti- wrinkle cream is made by mixing a teaspoon of olive oil with an egg. Smoothen the face and neck with it and let it remain till the skin gets dry. After that, remove it with a piece of cotton wool dipped in hot water to which a teaspoon of soda bicarbonate has been added.

4. To improve a blemished and discolored face, first stream it for 8 to 10 minutes. Clean your face with a gentle facial wash, wipe dry with a soft tissue, and then apply a teaspoon of olive oil mixed with half a teaspoon of lemon juice. Let it remain for 20 to 30 minutes. Then, wipe with cotton wool, and rub ice cube gently for five minutes all over the face.

5. To improve a dull and dark complexion, mix a teaspoon of gram flour to which a pinch of turmeric powder, a few drops of lemon juice, and half a teaspoon each olive oil and milk have been added. Leave on for half an hour and then wash off with water.

6. Improve weak nails by applying baby oil- mixed with white iodine- on the nails and base of cuticles every day.

7. For lined and chapped lips, the best remedy is to massage them with baby oil daily at bedtime.

8. Brush pure castor oil on the roots of your lashes at bedtime to make them grow long and thick.

9. Massage grey and wrinkled elbows with baby oil every day at bedtime to make them smooth and soft.

10. Massage your face and neck with baby oil every night at bedtime to make them soft, smooth, and glowing.

11. If the skin around your heels has become hard and cracked, scrub your heels with a stiff brush, using soap generously. Then rub with pumice stone. Wash with water, wipe dry, and then massage briskly with castor oil.

Weaves May Need Special Help

February 28th, 2012

Styling and hair care advice for curly hair types desiring to weave in faux tresses and artificial ornamentation includes remembering that curls do not fall the same way each and every day. Start slowly with just one section woven in and see if you like the result before spending a day at the salon only to see different results the next day.

Hair: Your Crowning Glory

February 14th, 2012

It’s a beauty quirk of most girls: wishing for long and straight hair when they have corkscrew tresses, or craving for curls when they have straight hair. This is why we have curling irons and hair ironing tools- or perm solutions and rebonding.

To be truthful, long and sleek hair wins more points in the popularity derby (the same reason why I decided to do the rebonding for my hair). It’s because naturally curly hair is not easy for everyone to accept and love. Curly hair is sometimes thought to be coarse and given to unruliness. Notice how short, naturally curly hair turns into a frizzy mess at the first sign of rain or elevated humidity? Mid-length curly styles, meantime, seem to unravel halfway through the workday and before long, the mass of unruly curls resembles a bird’s nest.

Fortunately, curly hair doesn’t have to be that complicated- or UNMANAGEABLE! There are a number of styling ideas that can turn your seemingly wild curls into a sexy, gorgeous ‘do.

First, try to nail down the look that would best suit your fashion style. If you like wearing classic dress styles in soft fabrics, perhaps “loose curls” are your best bet.

But then, if the latter is more your style, “frizz” is perhaps your worst enemy. What causes natural curls to morph into hideous frizzy locks? Not even the best shampoo will undo the frizz if you perpetuate the one behavior that causes it: the blow dryer. Using a hot air dryer prevents your tresses from flaunting its natural curls.

Whatever style you want for your curls, ask for tips from your favorite hairdresser. He’s in the best position to show you how to glam up your curly locks, whether for casual or party times.

Watch the Frizz!

January 27th, 2012

If you are opting for a switch from curls to stick-straight stresses, one heat source that your curls will hate is the straightening iron. For it to work properly, the iron has to be very hot, which temporarily relaxes the curls. But doing so comes at a cost: FRIZZ. Short cuts will soon show signs of breakage that leave the hair looking frizzy while long cuts will reveal split ends.

Shampoo dries out curly hair, which causes all that frizz! When you must wash, use only a little bit of shampoo, and plenty of conditioner. Look for shampoo products that do not contain sodium laureth sulfate or similar chemicals – this is what makes the shampoo sudsy, and dries out your curls. Try Deva Curl No Poo and Low Poo shampoos. If you have dandruff, massage your scalp vigorously to work out the flakes and improve blood circulation – you’ll see the difference in a few weeks. Condition with a product that’s made for curly hair.

Caring for Curls

January 14th, 2012

Styling your curly hair depends on the cut; generally speaking, medium cuts may just need a running through with your fingers. Those who have artificially curled hair will benefit from a high quality leave-in conditioner. Permed hair is notorious for its dryness and you will do well to augment any natural oils with a leave-in product that supplies nutrients and moisture to the hair.

Afternoon Slump: Nip the Need to Nap

January 1st, 2012

Do you find yourself nodding off around midafternoon? Join one big sleepy club. (Just kidding!)

The afternoon is a normal low point in human’s daily sleep/walk cycle. Although the research is in conclusive, some scientists think that a big lunch high in carbohydrates can make you drowsy by increasing the amount of sleep-causing serotonin in the brain. Therefore, a light lunch might be a good idea before a job interview or a final exam.

Still, most of our heavy-lidded afternoons are the result wide-eyed evenings night before. As a society, we are sleep-deprived. Most people receive less than the optimal amount of sleep, and many are grossly sleep-deprived. Any sleep deficit will exaggerate afternoon slump.

But, what is an optimal amount of sleep? Enough to wake feeling fully rested and to stay alert through the entire day, that’s it. If you’ve had enough sleep, you should be able to wake up in the morning without an alarm. For most of adults, that is 7 1/2 to 8 hours every hours every night.

If you’re getting plenty of sleep at night and still find yourself nodding off the next afternoon, you might have sleep apnea,in which interrupted breathing disrupts sleep. See a doctor if your slumps become habitual or if they’re hurting your performance on the job.

Otherwise, here’s what you can do to slay the occasional afternoon dragging.

GET THE BLOOD UP: Five minutes of exercise can help to wake you up. If you’re feeling draggy, get up and walk around briskly, go up and down a flight of stairs a couple of times, or nip outside for a breath of air. Get the blood stirring.

STEAL A FEW WINKS: On the theory that if you can’t fight sleep, join it. The medical literature shows that people benefit from a 5-to 10-minute nap.

SIP SOME JOE: People have used caffeine to wake up for a long time now. It may be helpful for the occasional afternoon slumps to drink a little coffee or cola judiciously.

Toe-Saving Advice When Having Ingrown Toenails

December 21st, 2011

Most of the time, your toenails provide great armor against many of the abuses your feet suffer, such as stubbed toes on a night of dancing. But like any useful allies, toenails need to be treated with respect, or they’ll turn against you.

Poor nail-trimming technique or ill-fitting shoes can cause a toenail to grow back toward your skin, sticking a sharp edge into your flesh. This nail invasion, just like any other puncture, can cause an infection.

Even if things don’t go quite that far, the pain of an ingrown nail is enough to make you seek some solutions. Below are some of the best.
